Usually on Copybloggerwe talk about how to grow 您r business with online marketing, get more customers, increase 您r conversion rate, build thousands of daily readers, and all the rest of it.
But 您 also need to know about the factors that will kill off 您r business. Sometimes it’s a question of attitude, like when 您’re sick of it, when it’s only a hobby and 您 don’t want to take it too seriously, or when 您’re equally scared of success and failure.
If 您 want 您r business to thrive, watch out for these warning signs. Get them straightened out and 您’ll get 您r business on the road to robust good health.
#1: A 浮躁的态度
您r attitude about 您r own business will affect everyone else’s attitude about it. Every web visitor, every person 您 speak to, every twitter and FaceBook contact. They’ll know, without 您 telling them, exactly how 您 regard 您r business.
什么 are some of the warning signs that 您r attitude may suck?
- When 您 don’t post for weeks on end.
- When 您 haven’t put out a new product or service for the last six months.
- When 您 say 您r business would be great if it wasn’t for those $#%^& customers.
- When 您 whinge about how hard business is and how all those successful A-listers must have had friends in the right places.
- When 您’re expecting to be an overnight success and 您’re surprised that 您 aren’t both rich and famous after six months.
#2: 营销学 to a demographic, not a niche
的best and simplest definition of an online marketing niche that I’ve seen is “a group of people with a common 问题 who congregate together.”
It’s only a niche when they share a 问题.
So what’s the 问题 in 您r niche, and how are 您 going to solve it? Where does 您r niche group together so 您 can market to them specifically?
It’s an online marketing paradox that the more 您 narrow 您r niche, the more successful 您r marketing will be.
Have a look at who 您’re aiming at now and ask 您rself if it’s a demographic or a real niche.
How can 您 narrow 您r message down to their core 问题 — the 一 that 您 solve brilliantly and uniquely?
这些天来建立在线业务非常容易— just whack up a WordPress.com or Blogger site and off 您 go.
Need graphics? Pick up some clip art. Logo and website header? $50 should take care of that if 您 outsource to the lowest bidder. Business cards? 您 can get freebies from Vistaprint, why pay money for a designer and printing? Newsletter list? Send that from 您r desktop with Outlook.
的only 问题 here is that 您r online presence (and therefore, 您r business) looks cheap. And the overall impression visitors and potential clients get is that 您’re (a) broke, (b) cheap and (c) unprofessional.
那里 are some things 您 can do free or low-cost and no 一 will notice. 您r website is not 一 of them.
Don’t get me wrong here, 您 don’t have to go to the other extreme and mortgage 您r house to pay for the website. 您 do have to make sure that 您r site has a clean, professional look, that it’s easy to navigate, and that 您r web presence makes 您 look worth the prices 您 charge.
Someone comes to 您r site, looks around, reads some posts, 和n leaves. Sure, they liked it and intend to come back and read some more — but they never do. They forget, lose the url, get busy. And 您’ve lost them forever.
我对没有办法捕获访问者详细信息的小型企业感到惊讶— their names and email addresses. They’re losing customers and making life harder for themselves. It takes time and effort to attract people to 您r site, so why let them leave without a way to keep in touch?
设置一个 电子邮件通讯 list (NOT from 您r desktop, see #3 above) and offer a valuable free report or ebook in exchange for their details. MailChimp is free up to 500 subscribers if money is tight at the start, and 您 can build from there.
Once 您’ve lost a visitor they’re gone forever — along with every person they may have referred 您 to. Do 您 really want to let them get away that easily?
Or don’t plan at all. Business plans are for big businesses, and for when 您 need to go to the bank for capital, right? Wrong!
When 您 don’t plan 您’ll drift. 您’ll chase the latest online marketing guru and technique, flit from this to that and wonder why nothing seems to work for 您. 什么 are 您 aiming for? 什么 do 您 expect out of 您r business? How will 您 know when 您’ve reached it?
您 don’t need a 100 page plan full of legalese and possible budgets and financial projections that no-one but 您r Accountant understands.
But at the very least 您 do need to know what 您r aims (goals) for 您r business are, who 您’re marketing to, and what makes 您 different 从其他人那里。
Are 您 a ‘gunna’? 您’re ‘gunna’ do this and ‘gunna’ do that?
Just as soon as 您’ve studied this online marketing e-course, read those 136 ebooks, listened to the 84 teleseminars and watched the 78 hours of business videos that 您’ve downloaded onto 您r computer?
How many information products have 您 bought that 您’ve never read, listened to or watched? How many of them have 您 actually worked through step by step?
Ebooks, courses, videos and all the other teaching methods are great, as long as 您 utilize what 您’ve learned。信息迷比比皆是。对所学知识采取行动的人很少。
您’ll learn more in 您r first twelve months of actually running 您r business and putting 您rself out there than 您 will from any number of books, courses and videos. Information is great, but nothing beats taking action.
